THE BRIEF is the weekly IDSA Oregon publication about design, and cultural events in the Portland region.

47moto CafeFighter

47moto is a new OEM manufacturer of street motorcycles with the testing, quality and safety of a large, financial stability supplier. The single cylinder 250cc OHC engine and many other components are sourced from Sanyang Motor, a motorcycle, car and truck supplier to Honda, Hyundai among others.

A hit at the International Motorcycle show in Chicago and Minneapolis, the CafeFighter Mosquito is the first model to come from 47moto.

The small and experienced 47moto team have designed and engineered over 35 high performance vehicles. Mike Samarzja is the 47moto principal and previous Design Lead at Buell. Kent Solberg is principal of KSD and previously the Global Industrial Design Manager at SRAM. Leonard Blessing and Doug Walsh are engineering leads. Miguel Belascain is a talented motorcycle designer in Argentina. With team members in Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin and South America, the collaborative development was almost entirely online.

Initially a clay model was planned, however, to save time the team decided to go direct to a math lead. KSD developed the body work from sketches to tooling ready surfaces. Model data of the CafeFighter Mosquito went directly to 3D printers of the prototype bodywork and production tooling.

KSD is proud to part of the passionate and experienced 47moto team.

  From the editor

Thank you to Michael, Allison and Will of the Autodesk Fusion 360 team who stopped by my office this week for development feedback about their product. They are actively facilitating design through their responsive development cycle and the degree to which the Fusion 360 software integrates into the design process. Michael Aubry will demonstrate the Periodic Table of Forms at the IDSA Oregon 3x10 on June 24th, RSVP

Cutting Through the Clutter:

Leveraging Analytics to Drive Your SEO Strategy & Optimizations

Best practices aside, nothing should drive on-site strategy more than your own data. As a robust Analytics platform, Google Analytics can often create more problems than it solves. Learning how to leverage the platforms strengths can mean the difference between clutter & clarity.

Using Analytics, we'll seek to identify specific strategies that simply don't work, high value customer segments, ways in which other channels can be leveraged to make the overall business grow, and if/how to address expectation gaps on your site.

Empowering Community Moderators

Connective DX

Working in tandem with scripted filtration tools, moderators act as gate-keepers. Often under-paid and poorly supported, community moderators work invisibly at the heart of the social community. Each day, these individuals make thousands of judgement calls on behalf of the community they serve. At their best, community moderators provide personal care and an attention to detail which enriches each community member’s experience on an individual level. Their careful decisions contribute to a sense of safety and well-being that is the hallmark of a healthy community.
